Love Lifted Me

There is an old hymn that I love. Here are some of the words:

I was sinking deep in sin. Far from the peaceful shore. Very deeply stained within. Sinking to rise no more. But the master of the sea, heard my despairing cry. From the waters lifted me, now safe am I. Love lifted me, love lifted me. When nothing else could help, love lifted me. Love lifted me, love lifted me. When nothing else could help, love lifted me.....All my heart to him I'll give. Ever to him I'll cling. In his blessed presence live. Ever his praises sing. Love so mighty and so true.........

The writer of this song was comparing his life to a ship. He was sinking, about to be destroyed. Then Jesus saved him and he was free! That song brings me joy to know that I am free. You can be to.

"We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way: and the Lord has laid upon Him, (Jesus) the iniguity of us all." Isaiah 53:6

Do you know anything about sheep? Likely not. There aren't many sheep farmers I know personally. My family raised sheep for awhile and I know for a fact that sheep aren't very smart. This verse is interesting because it says we are like sheep. Sheep? Yes, we are like sheep and any shepherd can tell you that sheep like to wander off from the herd. Could we be even a little like that? Do we want to do our own thing and wander away from God? Yes, that has been true in my life. We are all sinners! Sinners? "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. " Romans 3:23. What does that mean? It means that everyone one of us doesn't measure of to God standard of holiness. What is his "measuring stick?" Perfection. Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? How about cheat on a test or disobey an authority in your life? I'm guilty already! But in the verse above it says, "and the Lord laid upon Him, (Jesus) the iniquity (sin) of us all." What does that mean? That means that Jesus took upon his shoulders every sin you have commited and will commit. Not only that every sin in the whole world. He took it upon his shoulders and bore the punishment for the sin we have commited. Wow! What kind of person would do that? The bible says, "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eturnal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23. "But God showed his great love towards us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." He loves you and me so much! So, Jesus died in my place and was buried in a sealed tomb. But, good news, he arose again three days later and defeated death. All sin has been covered. Now all we have to do is accept the gift of forgiveness for our sin. We repent, (turn away from our sin) and believe in what Jesus has done. The bible says, "He who comes to me I will not cast out." We are told to come to God and ask him for this free gift. God will give you a new heart. No matter what you have done, it will all be wiped away. Clean. Gone from site. It is your choice. Go and talk to God and tell him that you believe in him and you want to be forgiven of you sin. Give your life to him. Don't be a sheep and go your own way!

Ever feel like you don't know God very well? Maybe you go to church and read your bible but you got to admit there isn't anything close about your relationship with God. The bible says, "Become friends with God, He already is a friend to you." That verse amazes me! God is already my absolute best friend? That means that it must be my job to try and be a friend to him. How do I do that? That is a funny question, come to think of it. How do you become friends with people? You spend time with them and you talk with them. That is exactly how it is with God. The more we spend time with him the better we get to know him. Take this for example: when you first meet somebody you don't know anything about them or what they are like. You have to get to know them first. That is the same with God. We have to get to know God. Talk with him in prayer and spend time with him reading your bible. But talk with him like a friend, because he is your best friend!

People often ask this quesiton. The answer is no. You don't have to go to church to be a Christian. Some people get a bad feeling when they think of church. Some people don't go because they would have to go alone. Others are to lazy to go or they feel uncomfortable. Church is a place where God's children gather to worship Him. He wants them to love eachother and help eachother grow close to him. Sometimes this doesn't happen in a church. People make mistakes. But there are churches out there who love people and love God. They want to help others know about him. The bible says not to forsake going to church. It is important to him that you find a place to worship. Ask God to lead you to a good bible believing church. He will hear your prayers.
